On the palate, it is round and mellow, with subtle, fruity flavours enhanced by a hint of spices.

CHÂTEAU DE COGNAC

The Château Royal de Cognac overlooking the river Charente was first a 10th century fortress designed to stop the Norman invasions, then in the 15th century a seigneurial dwelling where one of the most illustrious kings of France, François I, was born. Baron Otard, who had founded his Cognac House in 1795, quickly realized that the thickness of the walls offered exceptional and unique conditions for the ageing of his eaux-de-vie. He acquired Château and saved it from total destruction. The Château Royal de Cognac, which has become a historical monument, is a witness to the History of France and the House of Cognac. The boardroom is named after the place where the board of directors of the Baron Otard company used to meet. In the 15th century, it was one of the rooms of the Logis, with its large fireplace, and its access to a large terrace giving a clear view of the Charente river, now hidden. The other window overlooks the inner courtyard of Château.
