This final release celebrates the lasting legacy of the final member of the Johnston family to own and manage the Laphroaig distillery. Ian Hunter had astounding vision for Laphroaig’s future, and he nurtured its growth alongside the rich heritage of Islay and its people. Thanks to this dedication and passion, the Scotch whisky you enjoy today boasts such a distinctive flavour that sets it apart from the crowd. It was he who introduced the American Oak ex-Bourbon barrels to the maturation process following his travels to the United States. Ian’s vision and influence gives the whisky its iconic flavor and continues to direct their distillery’s practices and techniques, both from the infrastructure he put in place and the legacy he left behind for all generations of the distillery team to be inspired by.
Tasting notes
Sweet and spicy, with hints of classic Laphroaig peat and cold barbecue ash. Salted caramel and butterscotch, roast chestnut, a hint of peach, dried flowers and white pepper. Peaty and malty, with a lingering sweetness.

This classic flavour of our 10 Year malt whisky is the inspiration for every expression in our repertoire. It’s best known for the iconic peaty thump we’re famous for. Every sip smothers your senses with our outstanding smoky flavor, followed by hints of seaweed and a long finish with surprising sweetness. Laphroaig 10 was created over 75 years ago by the maverick Ian Hunter to bottle the very nature of Islay. To this day, many of our friends at the distillery say it’s their favorite dram because it’s the embodiment of the island we call home. Laphroaig Sherry Oak combines the unmistakable flavor of our 10 Year Old with the sweet, aromatic additions from Oloroso sherry casks. Launched in 2021, it’s the newest expression in our range and has quickly become a firm favourite among our Friends. It’s a happy marriage between rich, full bodied flavour and notes of Manuka honey, bacon and maple syrup. A sweet and smoky dram that’ll take you away to Islay.
