In 1870, Maurice Hennessy created Hennessy XO for his circle of friends and introduced a new style of cognac. Hennessy XO is the Original, the emblematic icon of the Hennessy Maison. Deep and powerful, the eaux-de-vie of this Hennessy XO cognac are aged in young barrels and marked out by their power and energy, but also by their capacity to achieve a great roundness through time. For its latest Limited Edition of Hennessy XO, the Maison collaborated with the great master of light and glass, French contemporary artist Jean-Michel Othoniel. Inspired by the notion of raw material faceted by time-honored savoir-faire and Time, the artist here revisits the emblematic Hennessy XO decanter like a jewel in the rough.
Tasting notes
The palate is warmly embraced by flavors of candied fruit. The intriguing sensation of an intense, rising heat slowly reveals the complex taste of eaux-de-vie patiently aged in oak barrels. Perception of a strong spicy cognac note, tantalising the lips and palate with its distinct peppery flavor intertwined with a hint of chocolate.

Artist Jean-Michel Othoniel has captivated audiences with his unique aesthetic universe since the late 1980s. His dreamlike works give pride of place to materials with poetic, sensitive properties that amplify light and sublimate sensory structures until they seem to float in mid-air. His recent works explore an architectural dimension and may be found in gardens or historic sites worldwide. In reimagining the emblematic Hennessy X.O decanter, Jean-Michel Othoniel drew inspiration from the cognac's extra-long maturation process: it takes years for its precious eaux-de-vie to mature, as the oak barrels in which they are kept gradually facet their aromas and flavors. A testament to the way in which raw materials can be shaped by ancestral savoir-faire and time.
